We would like to invite the Waverly Staff, students and community to play in the upcoming Gerow Memorial Tennis Tournament. It doesn't matter what skill level you play at or even if it is the first time you have ever played. We have divisions for all skill levels.
Divisions are as follows: Men's and Women's Singles Competitive, Men's and Women's Singles Recreation, Men's singles for 35 and over, Women's singles for 35 and over, Men's Competitive Doubles, Men's Recreation Doubles, Women's Competitive Doubles, Women's Recreation Doubles. Trophies are provided for all Champions and Runner-ups.
Players can only play in Singles or Doubles (not both due to scheduling issues).
If you plan on playing, please bring 1 can of new tennis balls. Also, plan on spending the entire day playing tennis. The tournament format is a 10 game pro set (or 55 minute time limit). Players will compete in pool play, then single elimination.
This tournament is a charity fundraiser in the memory of Jerry Gerow, who passed away in 1997. Jerry was a former teacher, coach and District Media Center Coordinator for the Waverly Community Schools for many years. The money and donations go towards the Jerry Gerow Sportsmanship Scholarship which is given to the WHS Senior athlete who best exemplifies sportsmanship. We have been averaging $1,000 per year for this scholarship. If you are not planning on playing, you can also donate to this scholarship. Send to Gerow Scholarship in c/o Eldon McGraw at 515 Snow Road, Lansing MI 48917 or send through the Waverly interschool mail. Make checks out to the Waverly Community Schools.
