Author/Illustrator Visits Windemere View! 04/11/2005 Author/Illustrator Visits Windemere View!
On Tuesday, March 22 all of the students at Windemere View had the opportunity to see and hear author/illustrator Kim Doner. She shared her recent adventures at an animal orphanage in Africa where she got help with her sketches from chimpanzees and cheetahs. They wanted to give her their muddy autograph, which she showed the students. Kim also explained how she started drawing at an early age and that even though most of her first attempts weren't very good, her family encouraged her to keep trying. She did quite a few book illustrations before writing her first book Buffalo Dreams. Kim demonstrated how she uses basic shapes when drawing and left behind a poster board drawing for each class. We have several copies of her books in our library for everyone to check out and enjoy. Special thanks go to our PTO and Mrs. Somerville for funding her visit.
