Elmwood Read-A-Book Poster Contest

02/22/2008
Elmwood Elementary held a Read-A-Book Poster contest. This contest was sponsored by the Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame.  Elmwood is the only school in the state where the museum sponsors the contest.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage children to read good books.  Books selected must be either a biography about a woman or girl, or a fiction book with an admirable female character.  The poster is to represent something important about the life of the person in the book.

Many third and fourth grade students participated in making posters for the annual Read-A-Book Poster Contest.

The award assembly was held in the Elmwood Elementary School gym on February 20th, 2008. Prizes were awarded through third place, with honorable mention and other entrants receiving a certificate and a pass for the Women’s Historical Center.

Guest speakers included: Michigan Sate University football player, Cole Malatinsky, Judge Nelson-Davis and Dr. Cheryl Vincent.

The poster contest winners are: First Place -  Alexis Williams, Second Place - Marvin Leung, Third Place - Olivia Long, Honorable Mention - Anaiyah Brewer, John Nulf, Ashley Wellington.
