Winans Becomes a Bucketfilling School! 11/22/2007 On Wednesday, November 21, Winans Elementary School became an official Bucketfilling School. We had a school wide program that talked about the importance of Bucket Filling. We learned that all day, everyday we all carry around an invisible bucket. This bucket has one purpose only. Its purpose is to hold our good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves, our life and the world around us. You feel very happy and good when your bucket is full, and you feel very sad and lonely when your bucket is empty. We also learned that when people say or do nice things, they are a “bucketfiller”. However, if you choose to do or say unkind things, you are a “bucketdipper”.
Our 4th grade students had the opportunity to participate in classroom workshops with the Bucketfilling trainer to explore the topic more closely. They learned specific ways to become bucketfillers and how to deal with others who are being bucketdippers.
The staff at Winans has already begun to talk about and plan ways to keep the Bucketfilling philosophy alive and active in our students and in our school. Look for more information in the future about this terrific way to become a closer, happier school community.
Please ask your child about what they learned during the assembly. Encourage them each day to be a bucketfiller, NOT a bucketdipper.
