for the May 3rd Waverly School Board Election
This year's election will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005. There are three Board positions which will appear on the ballot. There are two four-year terms beginning July 1, 2005 and ending June 30, 2009, and the remaining two years of a term ending on June 30, 2007. The terms of Edith Suttles and Britt Slocum expire on June 30, 2005. The term of former Board member Ron Evans, currently being filled by Cheval Breggins, expires on June 30, 2007.
Under the new consolidated election laws, Fran Fuller, Eaton County Clerk, will oversee the election for the Waverly Community Schools. Any resident of the district who is 18 years of age and a registered voter is qualified to run for these open positions. All polling locations will remain the same.
Local school board candidates who wish to seek office at the May 3 election may obtain petitions from the Eaton County Clerk at 1045 Independence Blvd. in Charlotte. The candidate's petitions must contain a minimum of 40 signatures. Petitions must be returned to the Eaton County Clerk by 4:00 PM on February 8, 2005. A $100 nonrefundable fee may be filed by the candidate in lieu of a petition. An affidavit of Identity must be filed by the candidate with the petition or fee; there is also a Statement of Organization that needs to be filed at the County Clerk's office for candidates running for office.
"Consolidated elections" legislation passed in 2004 by the state legislature has resulted in many changes regarding the annual school board election for the Waverly Community Schools. |
