Dorothy Blackwell Named Interim Superintendent 12/16/2011
At a Special Waverly Board of Education Meeting on December 16, 2011, the Board approved Dorothy Blackwell to begin serving as the Interim Superintendent on January 3, 2012. Mrs. Blackwell is currently the Chief Academic Officer for the Waverly Community Schools.

Mrs. Blackwell has been employed by the Waverly Community School District since 2000. She served as the Principal at Winans Elementary School for five years. In 2005, she became the Director of Curriculum in the central office, and in 2010, she was named Chief Academic Officer.
Mrs. Blackwell earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan and her Master’s Degree in Administration from Eastern Michigan University. Prior to coming to Waverly, she was an elementary teacher for the Beecher Community Schools, an elementary teacher for the Carmen Ainsworth Schools, an Assistant Principal for Woodland Elementary in the Carmen Ainsworth district, and Principal for Gunnison Elementary in the Lansing School district.
Blackwell comments, "Waverly is full of outstanding educators and support staff and it’s time for us to get back to what we do well: that is educating our children. I am honored that the Board of Education has the confidence in the Waverly team. We are ready to move forward in a collaborative effort."
Board President, John Broughton says, "Mrs. Blackwell is an outstanding person and is well known in the District. She is a consensus leader and the Board would like to thank her for stepping up for Waverly."
