Message:
URGENT REQUEST: DO NOT REDUCE SECTION 20j OF THE STATE SCHOOL AID ACT
This is an urgent request that Section 20j of the State School Aid Act not be reduced as part of the proposed State budget for 2005/2006.
If it was reduced as proposed, then the students, staff and community of the Waverly Community Schools would face a devastating cut of approximately $300,000. This cut would be IN ADDITION to the nearly $500,000 budget adjustment the District must make because of an insufficient per pupil allocation proposed for the 05/06 school year.
Over the past three years, insufficient per pupil funding from the State for Waverly has caused the District to cut nearly $4 million from its budget and eliminate 50 positions. Waverly Community Schools is doing everything it can to live within its means and to continue to provide high quality opportunities for students in the academic program, extra-curricular activities, fine arts and athletics. The proposed cut in Section 20j will seriously impact Waverly’s ability to maintain these high quality opportunities for students.
I urge you not to support any budget proposal that includes a cut in Section 20j of the School Aid Act.
Thank you,
