Waverly Restructuring Process Continues to Move Forward 03/09/2011
Waverly Community Schools has been investigating a reconfiguration of the Waverly schools since October, 2010. Several ideas have been researched and parents, staff, and community members have had an opportunity to provide input into a possible restructuring of how Waverly Schools delivers educational services to the students.
Waverly administration has received much input into several different possibilities for next year and will move forward with the first step at the Waverly Board of Education meeting on March 14, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Jones, Waverly Superintendent, will be recommending to the board of education for approval the following:
· Waverly reconfigure four elementary schools to three elementary schools.
· One elementary school be designated as an Early Childhood Center and would house all preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students.
· Two elementary schools would house second, third, and fourth graders.
By taking this step forward, Waverly would become committed to restructuring all of our elementary schools this spring so that families and staff are aware of any changes which might occur due to this reconfiguration. Also, as we look at the funding deficit we already have for this year as well as the proposed reduction in revenue for next year, this will help us toward the overall structural deficit. The cost savings will be recognized in a reduction of personnel, a reduction in one building’s upkeep and maintenance costs and a recognized benefit of combining classroom and instructional resources. |
