Waverly Middle School Student wins national art award 05/12/2005 SOS Children's Villages - USA Announces
2004 Family Dinner Time Art Contest Winners
Division Winners Receive Home Computers
WASHINGTON, DC/May 9, 2005/SOS Children's Villages - USA (SOS-USA) announced the winners of its second annual Family Dinner Time Art Contest on Mother's Day. The contest, which starts each year on Thanksgiving, attracted hundreds of entries from all over the United States.
A group of educators, including professionals in art instruction, were charged with the difficult task of choosing a winner and runner-up for each age group. After sorting through the many excellent works of art, they were able to separate six entries that surpassed their expectations.
High School Division: Congratulations to: Xingpei Wang, 13, of Lansing, MI! Xingpei's entry was selected as the winner of the high school division (ages 13 to 17) because it conveyed the very feeling of a family eating and enjoying one another's presence. As one judge pointed out, "the mother's expression is a TRIBUTE TO MOTHER'S DAY!"
All entries were judged on adherence to contest rules and theme, overall execution, and creativity. Winners in each division will receive gift certificates toward a new computer.
