Waverly Community Schools Board of Education
President - Britt Slocum bslocum@waverlyk12.net
Britt Slocum has served on the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education for eight years, first being elected in 2001 and reelected in 2005 and 2009. He currently serves as the President of the Board, and has also held the offices of Vice President, Treasurer and Vice Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Slocum has served on the Policy, Building & Site, and Personnel/Finance Committees. In addition, Mr. Slocum has served as the Board’s township liaison and was recently appointed as the Michigan Association of School Boards alternate representative. He is currently serving his second term on the Michigan Association of School Board’s Governmental Relations Committee. Mr. Slocum and his wife Anne have three children. They think so much of Waverly that they are making sure that all of their children go through Waverly from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Sons Ken and Luke are Waverly alumni and daughter Maggie is a 11th grade Warrior. Mr. Slocum has achieved CBA certification through the Michigan Association of School Boards.
Angela Witwer was appointed to the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education in 2011. Ms. Witwer serves on the curriculum committee for the Waverly School District. Ms. Witwer owns a marketing and advertising firm, Edge Partnerships, which excels in higher education and healthcare along with several non profits and entrepreneurial businesses. Member Witwer is married to Bruce Witwer and has two children: J.R. (Casey) and Danielle (David). She also has two grandchildren: Raven and Alivia. She attended Butterworth School of Nursing and is a winter 2011 graduate of Northwood University. Member Witwer also is a member of St. Gerard Church, Ingham Regional Medical Foundation Board and the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Board Economic Club Board.
Secretary - Mary Ann Martin mamartin@waverlyk12.net
Mary Ann Martin is currently serving her eighth year on the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education. She has held the offices of Treasurer and Vice Secretary-Treasurer, and is currently the Board’s secretary. Mrs. Martin has served on the Finance/Personnel, Facility/Policy, and Curriculum Committees. She is also serving her second year as the Board’s Parliamentarian. In addition, Mrs. Martin has served as the Board’s delegate to the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) and representative/alternate to the Ingham School Officers Association. She has attained the MASB Level 2 Award of Merit. Member Martin and her husband Tom have three children: Anna Marie (Dan); Suzanne (Rob); and Oliver. She has a B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan, is certified (IBCLC) as a lactation consultant, and has been a leader for 29 years in the La Leche League.

Melissa Sherry was elected to the board in November 2011 and in January 2012 was elected to the position of Treasurer. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Michigan State University and serves as the director of Volunteer Services for Sparrow. She is married to Peter Sherry, a life-long resident of the Waverly Community and together they have two children, Ryan and Emily.
Vice Secretary/Treasurer - Kim Smith joejobug@comcast.net
Kim Smith is currently serving in her third year on the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education. She has served on the Board’s Facility/Policy Advisory Committee and was an Ingham School Officers Association alternate in her first year on the Board. This year she will serve on the Curriculum Advisory Committee and will be the alternate representative to the MASB Legislative Relations Network. Mrs. Smith has served as a Parent Stakeholder in the AdvancEd meetings which helped in the Waverly Community Schools achieving their District Accreditation. A lifelong resident of the District and a 1983 graduate, Mrs. Smith is very devoted to the community and the Waverly Community Schools. She and her husband are actively involved in the Waverly Youth Baseball program. Mrs. Smith has two children attending Waverly schools and enjoys spending time volunteering in classrooms and in school activities. Mrs. Smith has completed Level 1 certification through the Michigan Association of School Boards. Mrs. Smith states, "Together as a community, district, and parents, we can offer our children the greatest educational experience for the future, for they are our future."
Trustee - Calvin Jones clj@lbwl.com
Calvin L. Jones was appointed to the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education in 2001 to fill an unexpired term of office. He was reelected in 2002 and again in 2006. Mr. Jones has served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice Secretary-Treasurer, and has served on the Finance/Personnel, Policy, and Facility Committees. He also has served on the Strategic Planning Committee. Other Board-related service includes participation on the Michigan Association of Schools Boards Government Relations Committee, Board liaison to the Ingham School Officers Association, and township liaison to Delta and Lansing Townships. Mr. Jones is also active in the Waverly Education Foundation, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Delta Township Parks & Recreation Commission, the Delta Waverly Rotary Board of Directors, Junior Achievement Board of Directors, and the Kim Jones Make It Happen Foundation. Mr. Jones has attained Level 3 Award of Distinction through the Michigan Association of School Boards. Member Jones states, "I’m honored to work with parents, students and educational leaders to advance educational excellence for each student."

Dave Percival was elected to the board in November of 2011. He is a retired educator with 43 years of experience in that field. He has taught, coached football and basketball, and served as an athletic director before moving into the administrative area. From 2000 to 2009 he served as principal of Waverly High School. Retired now but still actively involved in Waverly Community Schools as he has three children. Matt is a student in the fifth grade at East. Claire is a seventh grader at the MS and Kait is a senior. His wife Laura is the principal for the Eaton ISD career and technical center. He received his B.S. and M.A. from Michigan State.
