A weather station associated with the Weatherbug Network has been installed at Waverly High School. Waverly High School science teacher, Mrs. Chris Barrera, spearheaded the purchase by utilizing the profits generated from the vending machines throughout the school. The weather station contains a device located on the roof of her science room and registers all kinds of weather data. Some of the data includes temperature, wind, wind chill and humidity. All of the data from the weather station outside is sent to a data converter connected to Mrs. Barrera's computer. The data is then sent to a web-site for the public to view via the internet. The weather station is a great way to assist the Waverly High School students as part of their Earth Science curriculum. The station information will also allow the Waverly students, staff and parents to receive an accurate weather report that is local.
Cancellations
The Waverly Community Schools uses Cancellations.com to notify parents, staff and local media of cancellations, delays, early dismissals and other important events. When severe weather threatens, log on to www.cancellations.com, under “Check for Cancellation,” enter Waverly Community Schools as the organization, then click “Go.” If an announcement is posted, the details will be provided on the screen.
To be alerted automatically via e-mail, log on to www.cancellations.com, under “E-mail Notifications,” click “Join for Free” and follow the instructions provided. Cancellations.com is a free service for the district and all participants who sign-up.
The Waverly Community Schools also use other forms of communication to notify parents, staff and local media of cancellations, delays, early dismissals and other important events. These methods are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include the Waverly web-site (www.waverly.k12.mi.us), the Waverly cable channel 21 (Comcast Cable, only available within the school boundaries), the Waverly School Closing line at (517) 886-1146 and announcements on local media outlets.
