Waverly Middle School is home to approximately 560 seventh and eighth grade students. The staff at Waverly Middle School dedicates the greater part of their planning time to curriculum and how to get students ready for the rigorous academic program at the high school. Along with this process the staff continues to improve the teaching and learning environment in the building.
There are many activities that offer student’s opportunities for leadership, social development, enriched learning experiences, involvement, belonging, and special recognition. These activities include: National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Community Service Activities, Recognition Assemblies and honor Programs, Athletics, Band, Orchestra, Choir, and an end of the year Talent Show. WMS students also participate in many other activities around the Lansing area, including: Martin Luther King Essay Contest, Michigan State University MathCounts Competition, Youth and Race Diversity Conference, and
The staff at Waverly Middle School is very dedicated to giving students the best educational experience possible. The staff focuses on three key improvement goals: 1) Students will improve their reading comprehension skills, 2) Students will have career educational experiences, and 3) Students will demonstrate the four character cluster traits (caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect) and improve the overall attendance.
Waverly Middle School parents are invited to join the Parent/Teacher Council and support our school improvement committee. Parent volunteers help with office and library as well as classroom assistance, social events and field trip chaperones, athletics, and community service activities. Parents are encouraged to participate in school life through attendance at events and concerts in which their children are participants.
