Waverly High School encompasses a population of 1,100 diverse students. We have a teaching staff of 63, and a support staff of about 30 that includes custodians, Para-pros, kitchen and secretarial staff.  Three administrators and three counselors compliment this small community that is the heart of Delta Township. Our curriculum is also diverse in that we offer a variety of opportunities for all learners. Our goals are very clear about offering the best education for all students and teaching within the character cluster of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility.

The high school works with the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and school Improvement (NCA CASI).  Through NCA, the high school has a model for the school improvement process and has maintained accreditation. As of May 2005, we have received continuing accreditation and are in the second year of a five year cycle. We have collected data regarding gaps in math and reading and have a strategic focus in all classes with these goals. In addition, teachers are helping students to understand the connecting between curriculum and career goals.

Programs Unique to the High School

In addition to the regular curriculum for most students, we offer a variety of opportunities to challenge students to be the best they can be. Our correspondent (WCI) program offers an opportunity for high school credit in a one on one situation.  Challenged career students have the opportunity of the Ingham Career Center in Mason as well as access to the new west campus of LCC.  Alternative Education helps those who have had difficulties with the normal routine of high school. CHAMPS is a challenging MSU math program for gifted students. Dual enrollment to gain college credit is facilitated through Lansing Community College.  There is a place for all who want an education.

Student Involvement

Opportunities are in abundance at Waverly High School for students.  There are honor societies for the academic proficient in the world of languages and the National Honor Society.  Destination Imagination tests the higher level thinking skills of students in a problem solving way. We have many clubs representing our diverse cultures. The fine arts program is one of the best in the state. Advance Placement classes are offered in all core areas.  The student senate does much of the student activity planning for the year, and membership is on an elected basis.  We have 23 different sport activities. Approximately 80% of the student body is involved in these or co-curricula activities.
