Exceptional Learning Services (ExL Services — formerly the Gifted/Talented Program) supports exceptional academic abilities and interests of students. Its goal is to meet individual needs, provide opportunities for all students to achieve their academic best, develop and implement personally challenging education goals, and enhance a process of lifelong learning.

The Exceptional Learning Servicesprogram at Waverly Community Schools continues a tradition of academic excellence by:
  • CONNECTING students with exceptional learning opportunities through programs and projects outside of the general curriculum. All Waverly students who are interested are invited to participate.
  • CONNECTING parents with information and resources supporting the academic growth and development of their children and the potential for exceptional learning opportunities.
  • CONNECTING teachers with current research and resources for exceptional learning and differentiating instruction.

"ExL Services Are Available To All Students"
Waverly's academic curriculum is challenging, rigorous, rich in all disciplines, and of the highest quality. This is sufficient for most students, especially with homework requirements and involvement in sports and other activities. However, students with academic interests and abilities that exceed classroom curriculum objectives, may benefit from exceptional learning opportunities.
The focus of Exceptional Learning Services is on facilitating the learning process, identifying student's academic potential, need, ability, and interests.
The identification process has been simplified - match potential with possibilities, abilities with challenges, needs with alternatives, and interests with opportunities. Students, parents, teachers, counselors, principals will help determine which programs or projects will best support individual personal education goals.
Different programs will be available at the building level.Testing will be arranged where applicable for specific program enrollment. All other academic assessments are being reviewed at this time.
Programs are coordinated by Waverly community schools and offered in collaboration with other educational agencies. Program and project information, qualifications, and pre-requisites will be made available through notices to teachers and school administrators, school newsletters, the Waverly web-site, and TV Channel 21.
Midwest Academic Talent Search invitations have gone out to students scoring a level 1 on the MEAP Assessment.  If you have questions please call 319-3028.  This program gives students the opportunity to take the EXPLORE test or the ACT test and SAT test.
